Technology brings a lot of benefits
into the classroom, although it also imposes some challenges for the teacher.
It is sometimes hard for the teacher to introduce these new tools into the
classroom but once they do they notice that it brings many good ideas into the
class. A key point for teachers that make the transition is to realise it’s
easier for them to track and assess the work of their students. On the other
hand, for many students an interactive activity is more appealing than a book,
so technology often engages the students into more practicing and reviewing.
Since the students are motivated the teachers can focus on expanding the class
and work on skills like problem solving, character development and critical
thinking.
Integrating technology into the classroom is definitely a
great way to reach diversity in learning styles. Nowadays students love
technology so surely they will be interested in learning if they can use the
tools they love.
With technology in the classroom the teacher becomes the
encourager, adviser, and coach. Students become more responsible. and take more
control over their own learning. They learn how to make their own decisions and
actually think for themselves.
As always there is also a different angle when too much of a
good thing is used, so there has to be a balance in the classroom of when to
carry out face to face activities and when to lean on the technology.
